CSPPG welcomes Dr Laura Tarkiainen as a Visiting Scholar
We are delighted to welcome Dr Laura Tarkiainen from Tampere University’s Faculty of Social Sciences, Finland, as a Visiting Scholar for the next month.
Dr Tarkiainen’s research focusses on policies and discourses of the welfare state, wealth, poverty and deservingness. She is currently working on a project entitled “Keeping New Money on Board: The New Nordic Wealth Elites and the Future of the Welfare Model”, led by Associate Professor of Sociology Hanna Kuusela. In the project, Dr Tarkiainen’s research has three main purposes: to identify key groups among the new Nordic wealth elites; to study the elites’ understanding of the Nordic welfare model; and to research institutions surrounding the new wealth elites as well as the practices, including philanthropic initiatives that the elites have undertaken.
