January 2020 saw the inaugural meeting of the Philanthropy Europe Networks (PEX) Forum in Madrid. Hosted by DAFNE (Donors and Foundations Networks in Europe) and the Association of Spanish Foundations (AEF), the event took place in close proximity to the art collection of the Museum Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza. Originally accumulated by a member of the Thyssen dynasty of industrialists and philanthropists, some of the paintings in that collection provide a nice framing for some of the key points relating to the PEX forum and the discussions had.

Starting Monday, 27th January, this short blog series will use ten paintings from the Thyssen-Bornemisza collection to reflect on ten overarching points relating to European philanthropy that emerged from PEX 2020.
