On average, it takes 9 hours to read out a doctoral thesis. The 3 Minute Thesis (3MT) competition challenges doctoral researchers to present their work in just three minutes. Entrants can use only one slide for their presentation – no additional props or media tools are allowed. Presentations must be clear and engaging, with a judging panel deciding the winner.

Founded by the University of Queensland, Australia, 3MT has grown globally and at this year’s PhD seminar the International Society for Third Sector Research (ISTR) ran the competition for the first time. We are delighted that Steph Haywood, doctoral student at the Centre for the Study of Philanthropy & Public Good, received an honourable mention for her her entry in the competition.
