Dr Tobias Jung, in his role as Chair of the International Society for Third Sector Research’s (ISTR) Emerging Scholar Dissertation Award Committee, announced the 2018 winner of the Award at ISTR’s 13th International Conference in Amsterdam. The Award, presented biennially for a PhD dissertation completed or defended in the two preceding calendar years, is valued at $1,000; it recognises the dissertation making the most significant contribution to third sector research, theory and practice. With a record number of 61 dissertations submitted for consideration, the Committee selected ‘Amicable Contempt: the strategic balance between dictators and international NGOs’ by Andrew Heiss of Duke University as the winner for 2018.
